In France, the number of coronavirus patients in hospitals continues to rise.

As the health authorities announced yesterday evening, 399 Covid 19 patients were newly admitted within 24 hours. This brought the total number of coronavirus patients in French hospitals to 9,798.

The number of Covid 19 patients requiring intensive care also continues to increase in France. With 73 patients newly admitted to intensive care units within 24 hours, it now stands at 1,852.

Another mass vaccination campaign launched in Tunisia
Another major vaccination campaign against coronavirus began yesterday in Tunisia. Nearly one million people between the ages of 18 and 39 were called upon to receive a first dose of vaccine in the North African country, which has been hit hard by the pandemic. Already a week ago, about one million people aged 40 and older were invited to a mass vaccination. In the end, 550,000 people were immunized, according to official figures.

Otherwise, the vaccination campaign has been rather slow so far: Before the first vaccination campaign, only eight percent of Tunisia’s total population of 11.5 million had been fully vaccinated against the virus. This figure has now risen to around twelve percent. Between 1,500 and 3,000 new infections are reported every day. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 21,000 people have died with or from the virus.

Hundreds of facilities have again been converted into vaccination centers for the campaign. According to the Ministry of Health, preparations from Moderna and Johnson & Johnson will be injected. The mass vaccination is also to benefit President Kais Saied. The latter had dismissed the head of government three weeks ago and suspended the work of parliament for an initial 30 days.

Tunisia was previously the only state to make the transition to democracy after the Arab uprisings in 2011. However, the country has long suffered from an economic crisis. The dissatisfaction of many people with their political leadership is great.
